Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you

Happy Birthday dear Shiloh, Happy Birthday to you!
And many more.................

Your name appearing twice this week on my read by all (okay maybe a handful of people)blog will have to suffice until I can get myself to a post office (it's just so darn cold). Just you wait, your present is AWESOME. Birthdays should last a few weeks right? Sending lots of love your way.........please send me some sunshine!

ps: Does this photo make me look really really short?

The last time I saw snow was when a (very) light dusting fell from the sky in Calistoga. Shiloh, you happened to be there at the time. And I was so hung over I couldn't even get up out of bed to check it out.
It's going to be a long winter..............

Fall

Today the temp dropped about 20 degrees. It is now officially fall (see photos below for verification). I know the season has changed because I seem to come down with a cold at the start of every new one. Guess those years of 75 degree days in SD made me extra sensitive to barometric shifts!

This was central park this morning. Suddenly everyone is wearing coats and scarves and even hats! Looks like I'll be updating the wardrobe tomorrow!!

Stumbled upon these wonderful ladies at a craft fair on Columbus Ave. Momma, they made me think of you.

Saturday Morning Adventure............

To Ikea!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After a delightful ferry ride (yes you read that right, a ferry ride, see below for more info ****) I found myself at Ikea. The difference between Ikea SD and Ikea Brooklyn? Not much. Important lesson however, only buy what you can comfortably carry home.

****The Ikea ferry might be one of the best deals in the city. It's free, runs twice an hour between the end of Wall Street and Redhook (an otherwise impossible place to reach in Brooklyn) and offers these lovely views. Plus you can catch a glimpse of the waterfall instillation (until they are taken down this weekend).

Love the color of the Staten Island Ferry!!!

bout friendship again.

Talked to an old friend tonight for almost two hours. No matter how much time passes or how far apart we may be, this is a friend whose laughter makes me feel like no time has passed at all, a friend who has seen me through an awkward adolescence, knows where I'm coming from and seems to always know not just who I am but who I might become. Did I mention that we talked for two hours!?! And we could have gone on and on. At some point during our conversation it occured to me that I felt like I was sitting next to him, drinking a beer and enjoying his company and conversation. There was no longer a phone between us, no miles, just talk and laughter. I know this guy so well that I can tell when he is smiling just by the subtle change in his voice. I think we have had the same conversation a million times over but it doesn't matter, each time we are a little bit older (!), with different experiences (and dare I say we are getting wiser?). I left the conversation feeling like I knew a little bit more about myself and thankful to have such a wonderful person in my life.

Joe and I first met when he moved to town in 2nd grade. Some things never change -- I of course was immediatly in love with the new boy! My crush continued through elementary school and junior high (and resulted in some awkward behavior--I seem to recall pushing him into a pool and I think I even kicked him in the groin once on the playground to show my love). Somehow, by the time we were in high school, I discovered that I had a wonderful friend and ally.

I continue to marvel at the way friendships can withstand the tests of time and distance and so much change in everyone's lives. I have such wonderful friends from so many different stages of my life and each and every one of them offer me so much. Reminders of who I am, who I have been and who I want to be.

October

October is always a big month, the last month before the holidays take over, full of birthdays and capped off with my favorite holiday, Halloween. It always seems to have a lot going on, an energy that other months (say August for example) don't have. This month the city and I are celebrating our six month anniversary. Wow, six months. I used to alternate between feeling like I'd been gone only a split second to feeling like forever, now it just seems like forever.

It was a little over a year ago that I returned from a trip to NYC and announced to all of my lovelies that I was going to move there. And what a month that followed! A month full of moving and uncertainty and a sense of loss but also new friendships formed and an unbreakable bond cemented among dear friends. And not to forget the dramatic fires that burned to the south, east and north of our perch on Mount Soledad.

It was during one of those smoke filled afternoons that we found our new house on the Knoll. Remember dressing up to meet the landlord, buttoning up our blouses and trying to find our pearls to wear?? Trying to come across as a very respectable yet slightly unconventional family! That is what I miss the most about San Diego and have yet to find in NY, the closeness months like last October brought us. All of you lovelies were, and continue to be, my family. I miss you and at the same time marvel at the fact that I still feel your love and support and laughter. I am one lucky lady.

And Yet Another Way to Charm Me

Faulty signage or just a sign of the times?

Rainstorms....................torrential downpours, lightning and thunder.

Girly Girl

I didn't realize that I was such a shabby chic kind of gal but somehow the things I packed up back in SD and had my parents ship out to me all seemed to be pink and covered in roses. Go figure.

So, what's a girl to do? Paint her dresser pink:

And when one's clothes no longer fit in the closet shelves must be had.

Shelves that need painting and a lovely paisley print (wrapping paper) glued to the back. The only problem is that said clothing cover up this lovely effect.

It looks much better in person, come visit!
